Stewart Technology recently visited Heriot Watt University for a tour of the Medical Device Manufacturing Centre (MDMC), meeting with the team to explore the centre’s advanced facilities and discuss opportunities to support the growing UK MedTech sector.
The visit provided valuable insight into the MDMC’s capabilities, including precision engineering, rapid prototyping, testing and verification and dedicated medical device regulatory support services. These services play an important role in helping medical device innovators progress from early development through to validated, scalable manufacture.
With strong momentum in MedTech at present, particularly across Scotland, collaboration between industry and academia is increasingly important. Facilities such as the MDMC highlight how academic research, engineering expertise and industrial manufacturing can work together to accelerate medical device development and strengthen the wider MedTech ecosystem.
As an electronics contract manufacturer, Stewart Technology supports MedTech companies with the design, manufacture and scale up of electronic assemblies for medical devices. During the visit, Managing Director John Robertson and Graduate Sales Trainee Shannon Taitt discussed how Stewart Technology’s electronics manufacturing expertise can complement the MDMC’s capabilities, helping bridge the gap between product development and full-scale production.
The visit also provided an opportunity to exchange insight around manufacturability, scale-up challenges and how closer collaboration can support MedTech companies bringing products to market more efficiently.
Stewart Technology would like to thank the MDMC team for their warm welcome and insightful discussions. We look forward to continuing the conversation and exploring opportunities to collaborate in support of medical device innovation in Scotland and across the wider UK.
If you’re operating in the MedTech industry and considering electronics manufacturing or scale-up options, Stewart Technology is always happy to share expertise and discuss how we can support your next stage of development.
