Soldering Options
At Stewart Technology, we provide a full range of soldering solutions to meet the diverse needs of our customers, from high-volume production to precision prototypes. With our advanced equipment and skilled team, we deliver consistent quality, reliability and efficiency for every project.
Wave Soldering
Wave soldering is a high-speed process where PCBs pass over a wave of molten solder, simultaneously soldering all exposed metal surfaces. At Stewart Technology, we proudly operate two state of the art wave soldering machines, which enhance efficiency and precision for through-hole components. Wave soldering offers fast, consistent and high quality solder joints, reducing the risk of defects and ensuring reliable connections. By automating the process, we minimise labour costs and speed up production timelines, making it perfect for customers who need high-volume throughput without compromising on quality. It is also a highly repeatable process, meaning that every board produced meets the same rigorous standards, ensuring reliability for end products.
Selective Soldering
Selective soldering uses a precise nozzle to apply solder only to designated areas of a PCB. This process is especially useful for mixed-technology boards with both through-hole and surface-mount components. Stewart Technology operates three selective soldering machines, allowing precise control over each solder joint. This makes it possible to solder components in areas that cannot be wave soldered and manage complex or delicate board designs. Selective soldering reduces thermal stress on sensitive components and prevents solder bridging, improving overall board reliability. This high level of control ensures that even the most complex assemblies are soldered accurately, which is critical for boards with tight spacing or sensitive electronic parts. This process provides a balance of efficiency and precision, making it ideal for customers who need reliable mixed-technology assemblies, while maintaining maximum product quality.
Robotic Soldering
Automated soldering robots at Stewart Technology perform programmed soldering for precise, repeatable joints. They are highly configurable and use 3D-printed jigs to automate tasks traditionally performed by hand. Robotic soldering is perfect for medium to high volume production and complex assemblies that require exact placement and consistent quality. Robotic soldering offers exceptional repeatability and precision, ensuring each solder joint meets exact specifications. By reducing human intervention, it minimises errors and improves overall yield. These robots are highly flexible, capable of handling complex geometries and fine-pitch components, and can be adapted quickly for new projects. For customers, this means faster production times, higher quality output and a reliable, scalable solution for assemblies that would otherwise be labour intensive.
Hand Soldering
Hand soldering is performed by our skilled technicians using soldering irons and specialised tools. It is ideal for prototypes, small-volume production, repairs or components that require delicate handling. Hand soldering allows our team to work with fine-pitch components and difficult to access areas that cannot be automated. Hand soldering provides maximum flexibility and control, making it the best choice for unique or low-volume assemblies. It allows for precision work on sensitive components, making it ideal for prototypes or rework where exacting standards are critical. Our skilled technicians ensure that even the most complex or delicate assemblies are completed with care, resulting in high-quality solder joints that meet customer expectations. It also supports rapid modifications and repairs, providing a practical solution for custom or evolving designs.
Choosing the Right Soldering Method
The choice of soldering option depends on your PCB design, component types, production volume and quality requirements. At Stewart Technology, our engineers work closely with you to select the most suitable soldering process, ensuring optimal reliability, efficiency and performance for your product.
